Jackson 5 Boyd Clopton Costumes Worn on 1972 Television Special, Michael Jackson's Daydream Sequence, & Greatest Hits Album Cover *Previously Displayed by Grammy Museum* W/Museum Insurance Paperwork, Michael’s J5 Belt & Greatest Hits Album –- This group of five costumes were worn by the Jackson 5 for their 1972 television special, and were previously displayed by the Grammy Museum. The costumes were designed by Boyd Clopton, and are comprised of yellow synthetic blend tunic tops with sewn-in billowing ivory-colored sleeves, and each have an embroidered name: “Michael,” “Tito,” “Jermaine,” “Jackie” and “Marlon” across the chest. The costumes were also worn by the group on their Greatest Hits album cover and by Michael in his iconic 1972 “Daydream” sequence. Within a year of their debut The Jackson 5 were among the biggest names in popular music, and essentially replaced The Supremes as Motown’s main marketing focus. They had a cartoon which debuted in 1971 and ran for two seasons on ABC, and starred in two of their own television specials, Goin' Back to Indiana (aired September 16, 1971) and The Jackson 5 Show (aired November 5, 1972). These costumes were used for the 1972 Jackson 5 show. The costumes were previously displayed at The Grammy Museum experience Miami, onboard the Norwegian Getaway Cruise Ship. They will also include Michael’s worn J5 belt, the insurance paperwork from the Grammy Museum, and a copy of the greatest hits album featuring the costumes on the cover. Please note: the white leggings included with the sale are not original to the costumes, and were used for display purposes at the museum.
