John LeRoy Jackson (Arkansas/Georgia, 1905-1992) SHOPPERS, ATLANTA DEPARTMENT STORE oil on canvas, unframed, unsigned H21" W30" Provenance: Fort Valley, Georgia private collection Other Notes: An Atlanta painter and teacher, Jackson most probably set this scene in the downtown Rich's department store where his wife was employed. The painting is reminiscent of Georgia artist Lamar Dodd's painting BARGAIN BASEMENT, now in the collection of the Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, GA. Dodd and Jackson almost certainly were acquaintances in the Atlanta art community.
