The previous day, Jackson had concluded the Treaty of Fort Jackson with the Creek. ANDREW JACKSON, Document Signed, Pay Order, August 10, 1814. 1 p., 8? x 8.25?. Two sheets attached by seals; several folds; repairs to some folds. Complete Transcript: The A. D. Q. M. General of the 7 Military District at Nashville Tennessee will adjust and pay the above amount Fort Jackson August 10th 1814. Andrew Jackson / Major Genl Comdg. (Signed Duplicates) The United States To Stinclannishajah Dr For three Month pay of a Mounted Ranger 90 days @ 1 Dollar pr Day $90..00 Deduct for 90 Rations Recd in kind @ 14 cts 12..60 $77..40 Historical Background: On August 9, 1814, the day before he signed this document, Major General Andrew Jackson concluded the Treaty of Fort Jackson with the Creeks. Signed at Fort Jackson near Wetumpka, Alabama, the treaty came as a result of Jackson’s defeat of the Red Stick (Upper Creek) on March 27 at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. By the terms of the treaty, the Creek ceded 23 million acres of land, including much of the southern fifth of Georgia and nearly half of the state of Alabama, to the United States government. After this definitive victory over and treaty with the Creek, Jackson continued southwest to Louisiana, where five months later, he scored a decisive victory over British forces in the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815. This payment for 90 days of service seems to have been made to a Cherokee, Choctaw, or Lower Creek allied with the American forces who served as a Mounted Ranger. This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses. Speech by Josiah Quincy, 1812, 1st edition

        Est: $25 - $50

Description: Copy #363 given to Thomas Jackson. Speech of the Hon. Josiah Quincy in the House of Representatives of the U.S. in relation to maritime protection, 30 pages. Printed on hand laid paper Alexandria, printed by S. Snowden 1812. Material: Paper, Typeface ink Maker/Artist: S. Snowden Date: 1812 Provenance: N/A Size of Artwork: H. 8 x W. 5.5 Weight (LBS) .14 Condition: Pages are intact and legible. Binding failed; most pages are loose from binding. No back cover. History: In the United States House of Representatives, a group of young Democratic-Republicans known as the "War Hawks" came to the forefront in 1811, led by Speaker of the House Henry Clay of Kentucky and John C. Calhoun of South Carolina. The War Hawks advocated going to war against Great Britain for all of the reasons listed above, though concentrating on the grievances more than the territorial expansion. On the first of June 1812, President James Madison gave a speech to the U.S. Congress, recounting American grievances against Great Britain, though not specifically calling for a declaration of war. After Madison's speech, the House of Representatives quickly voted (79 to 49) to declare war, and the Senate by 19 to 13. The conflict formally began on 18 June 1812 when Madison signed the measure into law. This was the first time that the United States had declared war on another nation, and the Congressional vote would prove to be the closest vote to declare war in American history. None of the 39 Federalists in Congress voted in favor of the war; critics of war subsequently referred to it as "Mr. Madison's War." Josiah Quincy III February 4, 1772 â€" July 1, 1864) was a U.S. educator and political figure. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1805â€"1813), Mayor of Boston (1823â€"1828), and President of Harvard University (1829â€"1845). The historic Quincy Market in downtown Boston is named in his honor. From 1805 to 1813, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives where he was one of the small Federalist minority. He attempted to secure the exemption of fishing vessels from the Embargo Act, urged the strengthening of the United States Navy, and vigorously opposed the admittance of Louisiana as a state in 1811.

      • ANDREW JACKSON
        Dec. 09, 2011

        ANDREW JACKSON

        Est: $1,500 - $2,500

ANDREW JACKSON (1767-1845) Seventh President of the United States, "Old Hickory" became a national hero in his defense of New Orleans and as president encouraged Western expansion and paid off the national debt. Fine partly printed D.S., 1p., vellum folio, Washington, Mar. 12, 1836, a patent to John Ames of Springfield, MA for improvements "in the Boiler for the generating of steam to be used in the drying of paper...". Ames had made several previous forays into paper technology, having famously sued Houghton & Johnson in the paper machine trial of 1828. Ames' paper-drying boiler patent took the steam process and created more of it for drying, as opposed to concentrated power in an engine. Signed "Andrew Jackson" with one of the largest, boldest examples we've seen, and countersigned by JOHN FORSYTH as Secretary of State and BENJAMIN BUTLER as Attorney General. Embossed eagle-vignette seal and yellow silk ties remain. Folded, with moderate soiling at top and bottom border and slight foxing in the folds. A diagram and text pertaining to the invention are also included. This patent was one of the last signed by a President before the creation of the Patent Office on July 4, 1836; government copies of the patent are presumed lost in a December 15, 1836 fire.

Autographs General Andrew Jackson Signs An Order For More Muskets This Original Document As Seen Featured On The History Channel Show "Pawn Stars" ANDREW JACKSON (March 15, 1767 - June 8, 1845). 7th President of the United States and Hero of the Battle of New Orleans, and the War of 1812. March 30, 1813, Autograph Document Signed, "Andrew Jackson - Major Genl Commdg." as commander of American Troops in the Southern region, 1 page, measuring 5" x 8," Choice Fine. This historic document was written at New Orleans, being a purchase order for "8 Musquettz" (Muskets), authorizing the Quartermaster General to pay $80 for them to John Bennett. This document reads, in full:"The United States - To John Bennett - For 8 Musquettz (sic) at 10$... (total) $80. - Col. Simeon Knight, Quarter Master General will pay Eighty Dollars the amount of the above account for Eight Muskets recd of John Bennett agreeable to the accepted recpt of John Davis, Ast. Inspector Genl. - (Signed) Andrew Jackson, Major Genl Comdg. - Received of Col. William Pratt Quarter Master General Eighty Dollars in full of the above account - John Bennett X his mark .... New Orleans 30th March 1813."A closer examination of this document reveals that it was originally written out in light brown ink, as a purchase order and also as a receipt to show that John Bennett had been paid, and was originally dated March 22nd. When presented to Andrew Jackson for his approval, Jackson himself signed it in a much darker ink, and he also amended this document in his own hand, also in the darker brown ink. Jackson changed the first mentioned Quartermaster General's name from William Pratt to Simeon Knight, who had just been appointed to that post the previous month. Plus, Jackson added some text, and changing the date from the 22nd to the 30th of March.Three additional uncertain words appear at the bottom center. This document is also docketed on back in a different hand, "John Bennett - March 30, 1813 - $80 - No. 5". Minor fold splits have been professionally reinforced on the reverse with archival fiber tape and the document has been de-acidified. Andrew Jackson's dark, bold, 3" long signature appears in the right center of the document, and is unaffected by any folds. This magnificent and extremely historical document, when framed, will make an impressive display. In 1812 Andrew Jackson organized a division of troops and moved them to Natchez on the Mississippi River, in preparation to defend New Orleans and Mobile. Shortly after he arrived in Natchez, officers in Washington ordered him to disband his army. Jackson flatly refused and continued to prepare for the defense of America's southern border. General Jackson fought the Creek Indians, who were allied to the British, during the summer of 1813, and in August 1814 forced them to sign a treaty. Early in 1815 he fought the British regular troops at the famous Battle of New Orleans. After the War of 1812, Andrew Jackson continued as Major General of the U.S. Army in the region, from his plantation (The Hermitage) in Nashville, Tennessee, down to New Orleans and across the South. By 1817, he had moved on to Florida, to fight the Seminoles and ultimately becoming Governor of the Territory.
