Published by Iskusstvo, Moscow-Leningrad, 1942. 88.5 x 59 cm.Red Army Day was celebrated on February 23. This poster’s design refers to the successes of the Soviet winter counter-offensive. Viktor Ivanov started producing posters in 1931, while still a student at the Leningrad VKhUTEIN/State Arts Academy, but before the war was better known as a film artist. With the start of WWII, Ivanov concentrated on graphics. His work in this genre earned him two State Prizes, one of those for his works of the war-time period.The in-plate signature is of Ivanov alone, but the imprint gives credit to both Ivanov and Burova, who frequently helped Ivanov to convert his designs into a finished product.
