Itzlfeldner, Johann Georg (attr.) 1705/06 - 1790 H. 44/D. 63 cm Salzburg, 18. Jh. Lit. Roswitha Preiß, Johann Georg Itzlfeldner 1704/05-1790. Ein Bildhauer des Salzburger Rokoko in Bayern, Weißenhorn 1983, Abb. 13, 17, 19. Wir danken Dr. Albrecht Miller, Ottobrunn für die Zuschreibung. Itzlfeldner, Johann Georg (Umkreis/circle)

        Est: €4,000 - €6,000

Itzlfeldner, Johann Georg (Umkreis/circle) um 1705/06 - 1790, Salzburg, Upper Austria, circa 1750 64 x 41 cm The Marriage of the Virgin. The couple kneel at the clergyman's feet, Anna and Joachim, Mary's parents, to his left. The cloud formations with angel heads release a ray of sunshine. Assembled from two linden wood boards. Carefully worked out relief, the figures carved out of the linden wood board down to the smallest detail without additions. Grounding, sanded, ocher-colored and with an elaborate powder gold coating, which underlines the illusion of goldsmithing work. Slight age damage, a few shrinkage cracks. South German private collection. In the case of the carved relief figures, the characteristic faces with the rather voluptuous lips as well as the small, detailed and very lively folds, as can be found in Itzlfeldner and the Salzburger area, are particularly noticeable. The very high-quality carving suggests a talented sculptor from Upper Austria or Lower Bavaria, who at least based himself on works by Itzlfeldner. Compare with this for example the figures Joachim and Anna from the Ponlach Chapel in Tittmoning or St. Martin in St. Georgen near Salzburg. Lit. Roswitha Preiß, Johann Georg Itzlfeldner 1704 / 05-1790, 1983, Fig. 10/11; 55. We thank Dr. Albrecht Miller, Ottobrunn for the attribution.
