      Josef Istler was one of the leading representatives of Czech surrealism and Czech informel. He progressed from more readable themes to abstractions, shape metaphors, and chaotic structures. He experimented extensively with techniques and language of painting, and it is precisely the diversity of his work that creates an extremely interesting artwork for collectors. He transformed the gloomy war theme into dark constructions with hints of buildings, immersed himself in his own self, and created works with a play of lights and hints of cosmic elements.
