          Est: $12,000 - $16,000

DAHLOV IPCAR (ME/VT, 1917-2017) Still Life of flowers in an ironstone pitcher and two fabric decoys, oil on canvas, signed lower left, mounted in a pine frame finished with antiqued white paint, OS: 31" x 26 1/2", SS: 23 3/4" x 19 1/2". A couple of very small paint losses or scuffs on the frame but the painting is in excellent, untouched condition. Ipcar was born in Vermont in 1917 and was the daughter of two other highly famous artists, William and Marguerite Zorach. Dahlov created numerous forms of artwork and was also noted as an illustrator for children's books. She was well known for her fantasy paintings of jungle animals. She grew up in Greenwich Village. The Zorach family together with Dahlov spent their summers in Maine on the coast and after her marriage in 1936, Dahlov and her husband, Adolph, moved to Georgetown, Maine where they lived thereafter. One of the things that Dahlov also produced was soft sculptures in the forms of animals and birds with highly designed fabric, such as that which you see on the two decoys depicted.
