      A vintage Russian Soviet oil on board painting by Boris Vladimirovich Ioganson, 1893 to 1973. The painting depicts a young woman wearing a red hat sitting by the window. Framed. Boris Vladimirovich Ioganson is a Russian Soviet painter and graphic artist, one of the leading representatives of the socialist realist school, teacher and museum worker. Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery. Full member, president of the USSR Academy of Arts. Hero of Socialist Labor. Peoples Artist of the USSR. (Moscow 1893–1973) The Harvest Festival at the Ilyich Kolkhoz, signed in Cyrillic script, oil on canvas laid down on board, 59 x 100 cm, framed, (Rei) Provenance: Private Collection London. We are grateful to the grandson of the artist Igor Andreevich Ioganson and the great-grandson Boris Igorevich Ioganson for confirming the authenticity on the basis of a photograph. We are grateful to Dr. Olga Sugrobova-Roth for her scientific assistance. This work is a smaller version of the painting that Ioganson executed in cooperation with Piotr Pokarzhevsky for the 1939 World’s Fair in the USA. The original title was “Life has improved, life has become merrier!” This large painting (387 x 628 cm) was exhibited in the main pavilion of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow and later found a place in the Central Museum of the Revolution in Moscow (now the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia). The sketch for this work is also preserved there.
