Unica and early work.Niyoko Ikuta (Kyoto, born 1953) is considered to be one of the most prominent figures in Japanese glass art. Compared to other media such as wood and bronze, glass is a relatively new medium within the realm of Japanese fine art. Based on the title, our work might constitute the earliest piece in an extensive series of more than 140 'Swing' sculptures, which Ikuta has made during the course of several decades. In her own words, Ikuta has written that she is ‘captivated by the complexity of light as it reflects, refracts, and passes through […] glass’.
