Art was given the task of educating the people politically, morally and ideologically, and to contribute to the communist social order. The artist had to depict a wonderful new world that would exist after the Revolution. Aligned to the Leninist ‘reflection theory’ reality should be reflected from the perspective of the future. Condition: The painting is in a very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. Partially the surface bears scattered craquelure. Along the edges slight traces of framing can be seen. Under UV-light tiny touch-ups appear. The framed dimensions are 154.5 x 265 cm, the dimensions of the canvas are 137.5 x 248 cm. Petr Michajlovich Ignatev (b. 1923) The ‘People’s artist of the USSR’ devoted to the presentation of the history of the revolution. He was born in the province of Kherson, Ukraine, and studied in Odessa and Kiev. He started exhibiting in 1958. Since 1965 Ignatev has been a member of the Association of Ukrainian artist.
