Louis Icart Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, Etcher, Illustrator, Engraver, b. 1888 - d. 1950

Louis Icart was born in Toulouse, France in 1880. Though his father encouraged a career in banking, Icart was determined to be a stage performer. After a compulsory period in the military, Icart moved to Paris in 1907 to act. However, once there, his interest in theater dwindled as he discovered the Impressionist movement. He found work at a company producing postcards and mastered the skill of etching there. These are among the first and most valuable of Louis Icart's prints.

Notable Louis Icart's etchings playfully depict women in states of undress. Critics say prints by Louis Icart birthed the boudoir movement and that it ended soon after his death in 1950. In the interim, Icart amassed popularity and wealth with work distributed worldwide. Louis Icart's paintings encapsulate the cultural moment of Art Deco. Fans of the French masters can find outstanding etchings for sale online and at auction.
