Erica Hyatt: I paint because it brings me joy and peace. It helps me to remember that life is better when you look at the world through the eyes of an artist; that beauty can be found in the midst of pain and struggle. I believe that optimism in the face of adversity can be a deliberate choice. Despite painting in a realistic style, I hope that my personal choice to search for the positive comes through and brightens the day of the people who view my work.
