          Hutton, Hugh (1897- 1976) He worked at the New York World from 1930 to 1932 and with the United Features Syndicate in 1932 and 1933, drawing illustrations and comic strips. Hutton relocated to Philadelphia and worked as the cartoonist at the Public Ledger in 1933 and 1934. He became the Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial cartoonist in April 1934 and retired from the paper in 1969. Signed Political Cartoon, "Hugh M. Hutton", 14-1/2 x 20 original editorial cartoon by Hugh Hutton on heavy art board and in pencil draft captioned "Same Old Thing -- Under New Label." Depicts "Old John Taxpayer," clad only in a barrel, supporting the heavy weight of a well-fed "Old Farm Subsidy" farmer who is a proponent of the "Administration Price Support Program." The refers to Charles Brannon's (United States Secretary of Agriculture from 1948 to 1953) Farm Plan advocated as part of President Truman's Fair Deal program. Arts inscribed "To Sec. Brannan Best Wishes Hugh M. Hutton." Very good condition. Hugh Hutton served in the First World War.
