British artist Hutchinson's (born 1930) Alphabet Series was published as a book in 1974 by the John Gibson Gallery, New York in an edition of 1,000. For the project, Hutchinson paired a personal memory or joke corresponding to a letter of the alphabet with a photograph. For the letter "Y" Hutchinson wrote about yoga masters and their unwavering discipline, though humorously taken literally, he detailed practices such intestinal washing and forking tongues. He would return to the subject of alphabetized thoughts with his artist books Alphabet Cottage (1976), An Alliterative Alphabet (1983), and Evolution Alphabet (1997).

Exemplar 83 von 100. – Schönes Künstlerbuch des Land Art-Konzeptkünstlers Peter Hutchinson, der 1930 in London geboren wurde und seit Mitte der 1950er Jahre in den USA lebt und arbeitet. Beeinflusst von befreundeten Konzeptkünstlern und »belastet« durch die Tradition der Gartenbaukunst seiner englischen Heimat, gestaltetet Hutchinson nicht vorrangig Landschaften durch künstlerische Eingriffe, sondern wendet sich stärker der bildlichen Dokumentation ihrer Veränderungen zu. Dementsprechend die Bildpaare auf den Tafeln des Buches mit auf- und verblühenden Blumen, welkendem Laub, sich füllenden Wasserbecken und verderbendem Gemüse. – 17 der 19 Tafeln mit aufgeklebten Offsetdrucken nach Fotografien, davon eins mit collagierter Vogelfeder, viele auch mit gedruckten graphischen Ergänzungen.
