Ruled and decorated in gilt throughout, one leaf with chromolithographed "illuminated" border, initials (occasional light staining and spotting). Finely bound in original black "relievo" binding, the upper cover with central terracotta intaglio of Shakespeare's bust, the lower cover with his monogram, gilt edges (rebacked, later dentelles and endpapers, some light rubbing).
