Humphrey became a faculty member in the Department of Art at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1989, where she teaches printmaking. Humphrey has also combined her skills as an author and illustrator for her children's book, The River That Gave Gifts. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and internationally. In 1996 she exhibited at the International Invitational World Printmaking Survey at the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, NY, and in 1999 she represented the United States at the Print Biennale in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Printed and published by Tamarind Institute, University of New Mexico, with the blind stamps lower left. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 5/20 in pencil, lower margin verso. A very good impression with vibrant colors. Tamarind 87-802. Illustrated: Driskelll, David, The Other Side of Color--African-American Art in the Collection of Camille O. and William H. Cosby, Jr., plate 86, p. 159. This large, tour-de-force lithograph, printed in 8 colors, is by far this master printmaker's best known print. This is the first known impression to come to auction. In 1972, Margo Humphrey received a B.F.A. in painting and printmaking from the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland. In 1974, she graduated from Stanford University with Honors with an M.F.A. in printmaking. She currently teaches at the University of Maryland at College Park. Her prints are found in many public collections, including the Cincinnati Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
