    JOHN HUGHES (1790-1857) Sketches in France and Spain, an album containing approximately 100 pages mainly incorporating titled topographical views in pencil and brown wash, places amongst others including Roven, Tours, Orleans, Angouleme, Biscay, Madrid from the Retiro Gardens (four fold panoramic view), Valencia and Barcelona, also costume scraps and further sketches around Sardinia, Capri and Sorrento, oblong quarto bound in half morocco John Hughes, educated at Westminster and Oriel College, Oxford where he graduated BA in 1812 and MA in 1815. He was the author of the macaronic Oriel grace-cup song 'Exultet mater Oriel'
