    acrylic and mixed media on wood construction, 1962, unsigned, in two pieces. 10.75 x 64 in. (each) Born in Oklahoma, Howard graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Master of Art in Sculpture in 1949 after serving in WWII. He joined the faculty of UNC-Chapel Hill in 1951, remaining at the university until his retirement in 1988. Howard exhibited frequently throughout his lifetime, showing at the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of Art in New York, Gallery of Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, NC, the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. These two panels were from a commission in the early 1960s for the sandwich and coffee shop in the basement of Lenoir Hall at UNC-Chapel Hill.
