The colours are bright and crisp. A few minor handling creases with some faint smudges of light surface dirt to the unprinted areas, however the prints present well overall.

There is the opportunity for this lot to be embossed with 'Estate of Stanley Jones' blind stamp after purchase. Condition Report: The edges of the sheet have a border of slight discolouration where it appears the surface of the paper is slightly rubbed/ abraised. Tiny speckles of foxing to the extreme lower edge. The printed area appears to be in good condition.

        HOGARTH, Paul (British, 1917-2001). A group of 3 original drawings from"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" by The Folio Society. [England: The Folio Society, 1957]. Black crayon and ink on paper. All signed at the lower corners. Sight approximately 12 1/4 x 8" and slightly smaller. Two are matted and framed under glass, one is matted; frame size approximately 15 3/4 x 11 3/4 ", matted item is approximately 12 3/4 x 10". Some visible toning, very light soiling, one drawing has two small areas of correction fluid. Sold with a copy of the book in dust jacket (London: The Folio Society, 1958, jacket toned, lightly worn). The original drawings here were used for the frontispiece, p. 89 (from The Boscombe Valley Mystery), and p. 177 (The Speckled Band). These drawings came from the collection of famed Sherlockian, Stanley MacKenzie (sold at Sotheby's , London, July 24, 1995, lot 191); MacKenzie's bookplate is on the back of the matted drawing. Hogarth was a member of The Royal Academy.
