Hofstetten" | Landscape painting depicts view of village in countryside with houses, barns, church with cross steeple, winding primitive road with wooden fencing | Housed in Period Wood Frame | Measures approximately 17.75" H x 25.8" W. Franz Xaver of Hofstetten (1811 in Munich , died November 16, 1883 in Waidhaus) was a well known German landscape painter. Franz Xaver von Hofstetten studied at the University of Munich and became a member of the Corps Isaria in 1829. As early as 1830 he exhibited a cycle of seven landscapes in the Munich Kunstverein. After completing his studies, he began an official career as a construction trainee during the reign of the Isarkreis, but decided in 1833 to dedicate himself entirely to painting. He found the motifs of his landscapes mainly in the mountainous regions of southern Bavaria and Austria, which he preferred to paint during the summer and autumn, sometimes at the time of spring, but rarely in the winter.
