Before the painting “Melanie” was painted onto the artist’s cardboard, it showed another painting – “Eisvogel [Halcyon]” – which was then painted over by the artist. The girl in the painting is depicted in shimmering shades of rose, and the background is largely blue and rose coloured. The girl was once a visitor at the artist’s family home. The frame is part of the work and has also been painted. The piece “Melanie” by Margret Hofheinz-Döring (1910-1994) is in very good condition. The artist has signed the painting on the lower right: “MHD”. On the reverse side she has marked the catalogue raisonné number 7117. The piece measures 52 cm (height) by 70 cm (width) in its frame. There are three discernible faces which have been painted over one-another. A bird leans in from the lower right corner of the painting. The separate colour-elements of each of the faces endow this painting with an enchanting allure, to which the black bird seems to be addressing its nightly reverie. The frame is painted and part of the work. The oil painting “Nachtgespräch [The Nightly Conversation]” by the artist Margret Hofheinz-Döring dates to 1964 and it is in very good condition. The artist has signed the painting top, centre and attached a sign to the bottom of the frame. A the back she has noted the catalogue raisonné number 2419 and the title. It seems more like night than day, so marvellous is the choice in colours in this painting. The three figures, who seem small in comparison to the landscape, are painted in a reddish hue, which can also be found at the lower left and right edges of the landscape. A picture designed to enable dreams. The frame has been painted and it is part of the piece. There are three discernible faces which have been painted over one-another. A bird leans in from the lower right corner of the painting. The separate colour-elements of each of the faces endow this painting with an enchanting allure, to which the black bird seems to be addressing its nightly reverie. The frame is painted and part of the work. The oil painting “Nachtgespräch [The Nightly Conversation]” by the artist Margret Hofheinz-Döring dates to 1964 and it is in very good condition. The artist has signed the painting top, centre and attached a sign to the bottom of the frame. A the back she has noted the catalogue raisonné number 2419 and the title. The piece is double-framed and measures 90 cm (height) and 72 cm (width). Margret Hofheinz-Döring (1910-1994) Margret Hofheinz-Döring studied at the arts academy in Stuttgart. She filled a number of teaching positions at secondary level and then took up work as a freelance artist. Her pieces have been shown at exhibitions in Göppingen, Baden-Württemberg, Bonn and also Switzerland. There are numerous publications dealing with her works; they number around 9000, of which the Hofheinz-Döring family owns 6000.
