    Signed lower right: R V HOECKE The Flemish landscape and architectural painter Robert van den Hoecke repeatedly depicted the military encampment theme. A painting of this subject became part of the famous art collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, inv./cat.no 1731). The Stadtholder of the Spanish Netherlands also owned several works by van den Hoecke. The present painting is extremely finely executed and detailed.

    17th century follower of AVERCAMP, HENDRICK VAN (Amsterdam 1585 - 1634 Kampen) Winter scene. Oil on panel. 31 x 43.2 cm. Our thanks to Pieter Roelofs for his assistance in the catalogization of this painting which he dates around 1650-55 and attributes to a follower of Hendrick van Avercamps. AVERCAMP, HENDRICK VAN (NACHFOLGER DES 17. JAHRHUNDERTS) (Amsterdam 1585 - 1634 Kampen) Winterszene. Öl auf Holz. 31 x 43,2 cm. Wir danken Pieter Roelofs für seine Hilfe bei der Katalogisierung dieses Gemäldes, welches er um 1650-55 datiert und es einem Nachfolger Hendrick van Avercamps zuweist. Eine stilistische Nähe lässt sich zu seinem Neffen Barend Avercamp (1612/13-1679) vermerken, aus dessen Oeuvre eine vergleichbare Komposition, heute im Amsterdamer Rijksmuseum (Inv. Nr. SK-A-2386), bekannt ist.
