        Robert Overman Hodgell (1922-2000) Female Head Studio Art Pottery Sculpture Signed Hodgell on the bottom rim. Acquired from the Hodgell family. Measures 10.3 inches high, 5.4 inches wide. In good condition. Robert Overman Hodgell was born in Mankato, Kansas on July 14, 1922. A painter, etcher, engraver, and illustrator and sculptor, Hodgell studied at the University of Wisconsin where he earned his BS and MS degrees. He also studied at Dartmouth College, and the State University of Iowa. Hodgell was a member of the Society of American Graphic Artists, Art Association Museum, National Serigraphic Society, and Madison Art Association. His works are held in the Joslyn Art Museum, at Dartmouth College, Wisconsin Union, Topeka Art Guild, Kansas State Teachers College and Kansas State College. He exhibited his works at the Mississippi Art Association, Albany Print Club, Society of American Graphic Artists, Washington Watercolor Club, Northwest Printmakers, Philadelphia Print Club, Portland Society of Artists, the Butler Art Institute, Bradley University, and Library of Congress. Hodgell was an Instructor at the Des Moines Art Center from 1949. From then until 1953 he was living in Des Moines. Then he moved to Champagne, Illinois and then Madison, Wisconsin where he had illustration art positions with commercial businesses. From 1962 until his death, he was in Florida and held a teaching position with Florida Presbyterian College, now Eckerd College. Hodgell died in Bradenton, Florida on March 3, 2000.
