      KAREL HLADÍK 1912 - 1967 - MOTH

      Est: -

For Hladík, the creation of relief was a completely new and innovative chapter, featuring collages on the basis of cut glue. These had been created since 1959 and some of them were part of the XXXII Venice Biennale. He often composed reliefs from leaves or stones. In the offered relief The Moth, this surface is also written into the form of the depicted moth. Here, too, he does not abandon the organic coherence of shapes and the organic logic of natural connections with the richness of the disturbed surface of the dramatic play of light and shadow. The work comes from the family of the artist's heirs. Signed: unsigned

Karel Hladík was a Czech sculptor and university teacher - professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His work is represented, for example, in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague or the Alš Gallery in South Bohemia, and his memorial plaque to Franz Kafka is also well known. He is famous for a number of figurative figures thematically drawing on the work of Alois Jirásek. His pupils include Magdalena Jetelová and Bohumil Zemánek. In the 1960s, three solo exhibitions were held by the artist. At this time he also discovered the beauty of casts of cut gelatine moulds, which opened up new possibilities for his work. The offered work The Rider comes from the family of the artist's heirs. Reproduced on the cover of the exhibition catalogue. Signed: unsigned
