Lower right inscribed on the support: "Carl Hilgers". Date: Description: Bust portrait in profile of the bearded male. Person: Carl Hilgers (1818 Düsseldorf - 1890 ) German landscape painter of the Düsseldorf school of painting. At the age of eleven Hilgers, son of Martin Hilgers (1764-1869), received his first lessons at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1829. He attended the Düsseldorf academy from 1833 to 1844 as an enrolled student. As a pupil of the landscape painter Johann Wilhelm Schirmer he stayed in his master class for several years. After a four-year stay in Berlin he returned to Düsseldorf. There he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten. Among other painters of the Düsseldorf school he was friends with the Rhenish painter Caspar Scheuren. He was known at that time for his winter landscapes painted in the Düsseldorf style in quite large numbers. After his death his fame faded. Hilgers', rückseitig ebenso, Maße: 22 x 31,5 cm, Rahmen 34,5 x 43,5 cm, Zustand: gut, an den Ecken perforiert, Kommentar: Hilgers war ein Landschaftsmaler der Düsseldorfer Malerschule. An der Düsseldorfer Akademie erhielt er von 1833-1844 seine künstlerische Ausbildung. Später war er Meisterschüler von Johann Wilhelm Schirmer und Mitglied der Künstlervereinigung Malkasten. Das hier gezeigte Bild entstand im letzten Jahr seines Berlinaufenthaltes (1844-1848).

Er malte mit Vorliebe romantisierende Winterlandschaften, die ab 1838 auf vielen Ausstellungen große Anerkennung fanden.
