But sadly, such is not the case for the exhibitionistic Peggy Angelo, a performer composed of equal parts Mistinguett, Madonna, and Gypsy Rose Lee. Artist: LÉON HEYMANN Size: 30 x 46 1/2 in./76.2 x 118.2 cm Atelier Léon Heymann, Paris The Bataclan, in its beautiful and eye-popping Chinoiserie styling, has been one of Paris's most beloved venues since it opened in 1864. Originally designed for café-concerts, it was a cinema from 1926 to 1969, then became one of Paris's favorite rock music venues, hosting some of the greatest mainstream, left-of-center and underground acts of all time, from The Police to David Byrne, The Ramones, and the Velvet Underground. So central to Paris's cultural life is the Bataclan, after the terrorist attacks of 2015, when most sites of such tragedy are torn down, the Bataclan renovated and reopened in November 2016. This historic poster for "J'te Veux!", or "I Want You!" (a three-act comedic opera of 1923), transcends its era and fully becomes part of ours a tribute across the decades that music, and the community of The Bataclan, is there for delight, love, desire, resilience, and life itself. LEON HEYMANN BA-TA-CLAN.

47x30 inches. Léon Heymann. Condition A-: vertical and horizontal folds. The only information we have about Leon Heymann is the visual record of the few music hall posters of his that have survived. Within his small oeuvre his style was very varied, with some of his posters being soft, boudoir-style images in the vein of Louis Icart. This one is by far the boldest graphic of his to surface. It is a strong modernist caricature, depicting a frail man in a top hat trying to kiss a large red-headed woman. The layout and freehand style of the drawing build a powerful image.
