      EDWIN HAWLEY HEWITT (American, 1874-1939) The Singer Building from Lower Broadway and The Singer Building from Fulton Street (two works) Oil on canvas, each 24-1/4 x 18-1/4 inches (61.6 x 46.4 cm), each One signed lower left: Hewitt FROM THE JEAN AND GRAHAM DEVOE WILLIFORD CHARITABLE TRUST PROVENANCE: Jensen Fine Arts, Brookline, Massachusetts; Richard York Fine Art, New York. These lively post-impressionistic city views were painted by the architect-painter, Edwin H. Hewitt of Minnesota. Although he trained under architect Jean-Louis Pascal at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, he nonetheless developed a free and loose painterly style in a more modern idiom as a mature artist.
