In her later years, Ms. Hess resided in San Diego, California, where she continued to paint her well-known flower and landscape pictures. She died on May 30, 1960 in San Diego.In the late 1940's and early 1950's, Ms. Hess' work was shown in many national exhibits including those of the American Artists in Chicago and St. Louis, the National Academy of Design and the National Association of Women Artists. She is represented in many collections throughout the country. One of her last known exhibits was in Rockford, Illinois, her home state.

Sara Mael Hess was born in Troy Grove, IL on Feb. 25, 1875. Hess studied at the AIC, Acad?mie Julian in Paris (1909), and with Richard Miller and Henry Hubbel. Her early career was spent in Gary, IN (1919), NYC and Hillside, NJ (1921-33). She later settled in San Diego, CA where she remained until her death on May 30, 1960. Member: Nat'l Ass'n of Women Artists; San Diego Art Guild; Laguna Beach AA; NY Society of Painters; La Jolla AA; Wolfe Art Club (NYC).
