Vladimir Fuka Hervert Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1926 - d. 1977

Vladimir Fuka Hervert (1926-1977) was Czechoslovakian-born American artist known for his children’s book illustrations. Fuka illustrated for Macmillan, McGraw-Hill, and Doubleday. He was the author of “Imaginary Portraits,” a series of drawings and collages inspired by his favorite artists and writers. When he defected from Czechsolovakia in 1966, his works were removed from the Prague Gallery of Modern Art and pulled from the Eastern European book market. Fuka was a graduate of the Arts Academy of Prague, and wond first prize at the International Illustration exhibition in Bologna, Italy in 1965.
