b. 1959 -

Bruno Helgen has followed a varied path during his artistic career. Fine Arts school for base, he worked for 4 years as a press photographer. When he tired of covering the insanity of major world events, Bruno moved into movie and advertising production where he spent the next nine years. In 1995, he discovered and fell in love with Bali. It was a challenge to leave the security of his old life, working in an industry he loved and in which he had built a solid reputation but Bruno was eager to embark on an adventure because he foresaw the great potential of working with skilled craftsmen in a land with an abundance of superb quality raw materials. He soon realized his vision; designing and producing a host of unique, high-end furniture and decorator items - and ‘The Island of The Gods’ became his home.

His work is favored by private collectors and commercial organizations around the world. In recent years Bruno’s focus was leading his team in several projects, completely renovating and outfitting wooden yachts. This past year, Bruno and his staff have returned to their roots and have concentrated on the creation of unique wooden teak globes and a superlative line of exclusive wooden and steel tables which have pushed his art to an even higher level. He spends two thirds of the year in Bali, overseeing production and creating new work, and the rest his time in Europe and US With his love for The Island of The Gods still apparent, it can be no other way.

Bruno Helgen’s design uses local wood from Bali like teak and the final shape of the globe is adjusted to the beauty and the imperfections of the piece of wood. With a wooden base, he also creates furniture (tables, chairs...), that he mixes with volcanic sand, lacquer and metals.
