Jacob Heinrich Helbigk, (1690 - 1746 Hamburg) Still life in trompe-l`oel painting

      Est: €3,000 - €5,000

Jacob Heinrich Helbigk became a citizen of Hamburg in 1737 and became a master painter in Hamburg in the same year. He specialized largely in trompe-l`oels painting and a few portraits. In the present painting, Helbigk follows a long tradition of the Dutch school of the 17th century. He looks for his models and motifs from Edward Colliers, Samuel van Hoogstraten and Cornelis Gysbrecht. The representation of a breadboard with various attached objects such as a comb, flute, letter and a painting of a dune landscape, next to it a drawing, etc., are typical features of his painting and can be found again and again in similar pictures of his hand.
