HONDIUS and FRANCOYS HUYS, contemp. limp vellum, large 4to. - Receding (water)stains in (mainly fore-edge) margin of first ±10 leaves (incl. engr. title) and in index leaves at the end; large fold. plan of Den Bosch foxed/ yellowed; one leaf chipped spot in blank margin; lacks first free endpaper and upper hinge weak. Lacks ties. Otherwise fine. = The first edition, in the original Latin, of Daniel Heinsius' important account of the siege and capture of Den Bosch in 1629 by stadholder Frederick Henry of Orange. This victory over the Spaniards was commemorated with this sumptuous publication, which incidentally also shows the publisher Elzevier at its best.
