2 Antique engravings. 1 marked Ed Hed left comer marked FLK on righ corner, depicts a man in a black cloak and hat reaching his hands out towards a woman with another man pulling the black cloaked individual back. The other is marked Grey Bichard on left margin and depicts a young woman in a forest holding a golden bow and flanked by two grey hounds. No frames, come with off white mat boards. BIOGRAPHY: A fine French painter, etcher and lithographic artist, Pierre-Edmond-Alexandre Hedouin studied art under Paul Delaroche at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1838. Shortly thereafter he began to take instructions in etching and engraving from Celestin Nanteuil. Edmond Hedouin began to exhibit his art at the prestigious Paris Salon in 1844 and was a frequent exhibitor there in the following decades. During this time he received many commissions for his art, including paintings for the Theatre Francais and the Palais Royale. Edmond Hedouin was decorated with the Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur in 1872 and the medaille d'honneur in 1888.As an etcher, Edmond Hedouin, was equally well received for both his original designs and his interpretive etchings after such masters as Boucher, Watteau, Goya and Delacroix. Many of his finest original etchings were commissioned for such great illustrated books as Rousseau's Confessions, Sterne's Sentimental Journey and the plays of Moliere. A nos bien Chers Maitres is indicative of the graceful lines and design elements that made Edmond Hedouin's art famous. It was obviously created for an artistic event or association Edmond Hedouin was part of as all the names appearing within the composition are those of well known 19th century French painters and etchers such as MMes de Beaulieu, Bouguereau, Detaille Hedouin, Laurens, Lefebvre, Masson Ribot, Ceyssonnieres, Veyrassat, Cte d'Osmoy Alexandre Georges).

Label to reverse: Maison Bernard Galeria de Arte, Caracas, Venezuela. This lot is from a Boca Raton, Florida estate. The family acquired pieces in their travels, many during their time living in Caracas, Venezuela. When they moved from Vienna, Austria to Venezuela in 1938, they brought with them part of their original Viennese estate. When they came to live in the States, they brought their collection with them along with exhibition catalogs from their favorite artists' shows.

Paris Librairie des Bibliophiles 1875 In-12 (lég. décharge des eaux-fortes). Maroquin cerise signé Thibaron-Joly, triple filet doré sur les plats, dos à 5 nerfs perlés dorés, caissons fil. et finement ornés de petits fers dorés, bordures fil. et ornées dorées, coiffes et coupes fil. dorées, tr. dorées sur marbrure. Bel ex. Édition originale de cette traduction de "A sentimental journey through France and Italy" (orig. Londres 1768). De la "Petite bibliothèque artistique". Ex. du tirage non num., ill. d'un portrait-frontisp. et de 5 hors-texte avec la lettre. Ce roman de Sterne (1713-1768) connut un grand succès et contribua à la vogue des relations de voyage subjectives, non scientifiques. "Le style "sentimental" devint le mode d'expression favori de la littérature non officielle et du radicalisme politique" (Wikipédia). Jolie reliure finement décorée et bien conservée.
