    Guillaume van der Hecht (1817 Brussels - 1891 ibid.): The town hall in Brussels, 19th century, Lithography Technique: Hand colored Lithography on Paper Date: Description: View of the Gothic City Hall of the Belgian capital Brussels, built by Jacob VAN TIENEN from 1401 to 1421. The Belfry in the central axis of the façade determines the impression of the imposing architecture, on top of which stands a gilded statue of the Archangel Michael fighting the dragon, the patron saint of the city of Brussels. Numerous passers-by have gathered in the square, the Grote Markt. They gaze at the building, stroll or accompany a horse-drawn carriage across the square.
