        Rachel Marshall Hawks (American/Maryland, b. 1879) bronze garden sculpture fountain with verdigris patina, depicting a nude young girl with butterfly. Signed R. Hawks and stamped ROMAN BRONZE WORKS INC. to base. 36"H x 20"W x 17"D. 73 pounds. Biography: Rachel Marshall Hawks studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art's Rinehart School of Sculpture with Ephraim Keyser. Much of her work consisted of public installations, including the City Hall and Memorial Hospital Fountain in Baltimore and the U.S. Naval Academy. (Source: Artprice).

        Rachel Marshall Hawks (American/Maryland, b. 1879) "Nude Girl with Butterfly", a fine, rare and important bronze garden sculpture (fountain) with verdigris patina, early 20th century, the bronze signed "R Hawks" and inscribed "Roman Bronze Works Inc. N.Y.", figure h. 36", w. 21", the stone fountain in three parts, h. 28", dia. 24". Provenance: The estates of David and Eula Wintermann (removed from the grounds of "Wingswept", the Wintermann home in Eagle Lake, Texas). Little is known about this artist as her works rarely surface at auction.

        SIXTEEN: A FOUNTAIN measurements height: 59 in. alternate measurements (149.9 cm) signed R. Hawks with the Gorham Founders Cire Perdue foundry mark bronze, greenish patina Cast in 1931. PROVENANCE Mr. Albert Hutzles, Pomona, Maryland, 1931 NOTE Rachel M. Hawks, a native of Maryland, studied at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore and at the Rinehart School of Sculpture under the tutelage of Ephraim Keyser and Charles Pike. The present work, one of several examples of the artist's garden statuary, was cast by the Gargani Brothers, founders in Brooklyn, New York. The Gorham Bronze Foundry contracted Gargani to do all of their lost wax casts from 1929-1934.
