Herbert Haseltine Art for Sale at Auction

Animal sculptor, Sculptor, Animal painter, b. 1877 - d. 1962

(b Rome, 1877; d Paris, 1962) American sculptor. Herbert Haseltine, sculptor mostly of animals and particularly of horses, was the son of the wealthy American landscape painter, William Stanley Haseltine (1835-1900). He completed a degree at Harvard University in 1899, and afterwards studied drawing at the Munich Academy, Germany and painting at the Academie Julian in Paris, France. In 1905 he studied painting with Aimé Morot, who inspired him to make sculpture, a discipline with which he enjoyed immediate success. Inspired by the gathering of artists from around the world in the Montparnasse Quarter of Paris, Haseltine chose to live there for thirty-five years until the German occupation of France during World War II.
