      JAMES TAYLOR HARWOOD (UT/CA, 1860-1940) Pont Neuf Viewed from the Louvre, oil on linen, signed lower left, dated 1929, in gold molded frame, OS: 30" x 36", SS: 23" x 29 1/2". Several small repaired punctures, minor inpainting. Harwood was living in Paris for most of the 1930s, the family returned on the last ship to America as the war began.

Inscribed verso in the artist''s hand "This panel washed up on the tide, subject east from Newport Pier, Sands of the Pacific, for Paul". The nascent town is just visible over the arch of the beach. In gold molded frame. OS: 18 3/4" x 29 1/2; SS: 12 x 22 1/2". Very good condition. This was purportedly one of the last paintings Harwood finished in California.

      JAMES TAYLOR HARWOOD (UT/CA, 1860-1940) - 'Webs of the Morning, My Home', oil on canvas, signed lower left 'J.T. Harwood' and dated '31. Signed and titled verso on the canvas and on the stretcher, also marked 'Property of my wife, Ione Harwood'. In gilt matched corner reverse cove frame, OS: 25 3/4" x 35 3/4", SS: 19 3/4" x 29 3/4". Very good, untouched condition. According to his grandson, the webs in the title refer to the fencing, which the artist had constructed himself. His color pencil study for this painting was titled 'Gates to Paradise'.
