Joseph Hartranft (American, 1890-1982) Oil Painting. Title - Greenport Harbor Fishing Boats. Oil on canvas painting. Signed lower left Hartranft. Measures 14.3 inches high, 15 inches wide. Frame measures 18.8 inches high, 19.7 inches wide. In good condition. Peconic School Impressionist. Artists business card attached to the reverse. Biography from Wallace Gallery An artist who shared a love of painting en plein aire, Uncle Joe as he was referred to or Joseph Beckwith Hartranft joined Caroline Bell, Julia Wickham, Whitney Hubbard, Marguerite Hawkins, Clara Howard and other Peconic Bay Impressionists for painting excursions along the North Fork of Long Island. A former executive with Devoe Reynolds Paints, Hartranft was the son of a much loved country doctor. He began painting full time after his retirement. Hartranft, who had a love for sailing, is said to have painted some 2000 paintings of the North Fork of Long Island. He was the leader of the Tuesday Art Club with founding members Larry Waitz, George McAdams, John Kaelin and Gilbert Miner.
