          Assorted engravings by various artists, from various sources. 1) Portrait engraved by Alfred C Kihn (New York 1868 - 1936) from work by Jonathan Scott Hartley (New York, New Jersey 1845 - 1912). Signed in pencil by both artists. Signed in plate lower right by A. C. Kihn. Measures 6.375-in. x 4.5-in. image size, 11.625-in. x 9.625-in. sheet size. In G+/VG condition with tape residue upper center, minor creases lower margin. 2) Two (2) engravings, one color, featuring period costumes. Smallest measures 5.625-in. x 8.75-in. sheet size, color engraving measures 10.5-in. x 7-in. sheet size. Both in good condition. Unframed, loose and not mounted or glued down. (17.9 x 17.8 x 1.3 cm.) Good condition Provenance: Collection of Mr. LeRoy Ireland, Philadelphia; Schweitzer Gallery, New York On April 23, 1897, Jonathan Scott Hartley married Rosa Bonheur Inness, daughter of George Inness and subject of this bronze medallion. This cast was made from 'The George Inness Gold Medal' created in 1900. These medals were awarded from 1901 to 1918 to recognize excellence in landscape paintings from The National Academy of Design. The figure is shown in profile with the words "George Inness - Landscape Painter - MDCCCXXV MDCCCXCIV" along the outer edge. The bronze bears the artists last name in the center right. Affixed to wooden board; On verso, sautering elements and screw presence. Otherwise appears in basic good condition, no evidence of scratches or marks. Jonathan Scott Hartley (American, 1845-1912) Jonathan Scott Hartley was a sculptor who studied under E.D. Palmer before attending the Royal Academy in London. He is known for his sculpted portraits of well-known cultural figures. His busts were often commissioned for display for public landmarks, such as the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He founded the historic art organization in New York, the Salmagundi Club, which began as a sketch class in his studio. Today the club prides itself on the proliferation of American identity through art.

          "WHIRLWIND", A BRONZE FEMALE FIGURE inscribed " J S Hartley Sc 1896, " WHIRLWIND and " Cast by A. T. Lorme NY. " 30 1/4 in. (76.8 cm.) high, greenish brown patina LITERATURE M. E. Shapiro, " Bronze Casting and American Sculpture 1850-1900, " Newark, N.J., 1985, pp. 101, 167-168 " Whirlwind " was first exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1878. A second version, similar to the present cast, was exhibited in 1896. Another example of the model, cast by the Bureau Brothers, was sold in these Rooms, May 23, 1990, lot 63. Anthony T. Lorme was the foreman of the finishing department at the Henry- Bonnard foundry for ten years. From 1894-1896, he and the foreman of its foundry department, Ernest Aubry, operated their own business. The present bronze is a rare example of casting by this shortlived partnership.
