        Engr., on 2 sheets, together c. 58,5 x 95 cm (traces of a horizontal and 2 vertical folds, some sm. spots). - Large bird's-eye view of Brussels, oriented to the east, depicting the medieval ramparts with the gates and the fortifications including fort Monterey, the court of the Archdukes with the Warande, the town hall, the churches and convents, etc. Engraved by J. Harrewijn after J. Laboureur & J. Vander Baren, surveyors, decorated with a large cartouche and a perspective view with allegorical figures, dedicated to Maximilian-Emanuel of Bavaria (1662-1726).         Mezzotint, "Reuk", Smell one of the five senses. Very rare Mezzotint engraving made by Jacobus Harrewijn (1660-1727) in 1690. De Reuk. One man throws up while a second man puts his hand on his head and pinches his own nose. On the table next to them a pipe and a wine pitcher. In good condition, good dark impression, skillfully restored tear in the middle, on thin laid paper, on the margins.

The sheet has discoloured according to its age. The edges of the sheet have a brownish margin. Stains and foxing are visible in places. The sheet was simply folded and fixed in a book. This is evidenced by the horizontal crease across the centre of the sheet as well as the trace of glue on the reverse. Due to the folding the upper side of the sheet has rubbed off onto the lower side. Traces of rubbing are visible at the lower left margin. The corners partly show minimal missing parts. With short tears along the right margin.
