LEE, HARPER To Kill a Mockingbird.

      Est: $4,000 - $6,000

LEE, HARPER To Kill a Mockingbird. Philadelphia & New York: J. B. Lippincott Company, (1960). Stated first edition (one of about 5000 copies printed), in the first issue dust jacket (though with the $3.95 price clipped) the Capote quote in green, bottom left corner of the front flap without mention of further printings. This copy has the preferred Daniels blurb on the rear flap, generally considered to be associated with the first issue jacket. Original publisher's green cloth backed brown boards in dust jacket. 8 x 5 1/2 inches (20 x 13.5 cm); 296 pp. Jacket with only very light wear, entirely free of restoration, though evenly faded; the red-brown is not as strong as usually encountered, and the lettering of the title has slightly offset to the brown paper of the boards. The winner of the 1961 Pulitzer Prize, this was the author's only novel until the recently published To Set a Watchman, which is likely an early draft of the present work. C
