Harding - 3 Tree Folio Lithographs

    Est: $500 - $1,000

This wonderful, rustic landscape lithograph is from James Duffield Harding's The Park and The Forest. The work was published in London by Thomas McLean in 1841. Charles Hullmandel used his patented lithotint process and printed the work on Smith & Chapman's paper adhered to larger woven sheet. The work was printed as a limited edition of 1,000. Harding was a renowned artist. He was taught the art of painting by his father and quickly went on to have his first exhibition at the Royal Academy at 14. He used rural people in the scenes for this work to create scale and recreated the natural light beautifully in his paintings. The Park and The Forest was the first work which featured Hullmandel's lithotint process. He was not satisfied with the printing process of the time, and eventually developed a process which made the prints look like ink wash drawings. His patented process became a standard for topographical lithographs.
