Pepper 1998, p. 33. CATALOGUE NOTE James Keir Hardie (1856-1915), elected to parliament in 1892, went on to become, in 1906, the leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party. His dedication on this portrait is infused with the spirit of his politics. John Furley Lewis was inspired to take up professional photography by the example of Frederick Hollyer. For biographies of both Keir Hardie and Furley Lewis see T. Pepper 1998, pp. 33 & 92.
