EARLY 19TH C. WATERCOLOR, ATTRIBUTED JOHN HARDEN.

      Est: $400 - $600

Ca. 1827 watercolor attributed to John Harden (1772-1847). The scene shows family members gathered in the interior of Brathay Hall, near a window for light as they embroider, sew and read. Brathay Hall, built in 1788, is a home Harden rented for many years, near Windemere, Lake District, England. The lady at the embroidery frame is likely Harden’s wife, Jesse (Allan) Harden (1776-1837). Most of Harden’s watercolors are in museums or private hands. Accompanying the lot is “John Harden of Brathay Hall 1772-1747,” by Daphne Foskett. Kendal: Abbot Hall Art Gallery, 1974. Image 5” x 7”, Overall 8.5” x 10.5”.
