Condition B: extensive replaced losses, repaired tears and darkening in upper right image; replaced losses and small repaired tears in margins; toned throughout. Over the course of his career, Hammond worked as a set and costume designer for theater and film, a book illustrator and commercial poster artist. While serving in World War I, he was known to have invented a form of camouflage and illustrated military magazines. Many of Hammond's poster designs were for theatrical performances as well as advertisements for resorts, holidays, cruises, and commodities commissioned by the London Underground. This playful design for the Orient Line - especially the typography - exudes its own theatricality, in keeping with Hammond's style.
