Flandern 1915‘ Additionally numbered lower left ‚93.‘ Sheet size: 21 x 16.3 cm Good condition This Drawing, executed with pencil and watercolor, was created by Eugen Hamm in the year 1915. It is titled ‘Der Lange Meyer‘, which could be translated as ‘The Tall Meyer’. It illustrates a soldier in Uniform, who rests on a chair and seems to be quite far away with his thoughts. The drawing is signed and numbered above ‘Hamm. 2/77’ as well as titled and dated ‘Der Lange Meyer. Flandern 1915‘ (=The Tall Meyer. Flanders 1915). It is additionally numbered ‘93’ lower left. The sheet is mounted on thin cardboard and is in good condition showing only slight signs of age and wear. The sheet’s size is 21 x 16.3 cm. Eugen Hamm (1885-1930) Eugen Hamm was born 1885 in Thuringian Apolda. He studied under Lovis Corinth at his private school of painting and a little later held his first exhibition in the Secession. In the year 1909 he went to Paris and studied at the ‘Académie Matisse’. He was fascinated by the Impressionist painters, especially Auguste Renoir. Back in Germany he was further a member of German Association of Artists as well as the ‘Leipziger Künstlerverein’. He works are nowadays represented in significant collections such as The Gallery of New Masters in Dresden or the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig. Sheet size: 17.9 x 25.8 cm Good condition This drawing by Eugen Hamm was created in the year 1914. The sketchy execution with pencil and watercolor illustrates a group of men, presumably soldiers, laying close to each other in their shelter, resting from the stress of the war that only recently begun. The drawing is signed and numbered ‘Hamm. 2/77’ as well as titled and dated ‘Ruhe im Unterstand. La Hungue. 18./12.14‘ (=Resting in the shelter). It is additionally numbered lower left ’40’. The sheet is mounted on thin card and is in good condition showing only slight signs of age and wear, such as marginal blemishes. The print is mounted on cardboard. During his travels to Paris he was also very much influenced by the works of Auguste Renoir, whose loose brushwork obliged the impressionist manner and clearly finds its expression also in Hamm’s drawings such as this particular one. The sheet is inscribed below ‘‘Schreibstuhl im Unterstand. La Hungue 20./11.14. Hamm. Kriegsfreiwillige / FAB 77‘ (=Writing Desk in the Shelter. La Hungue 20./11.14. Hamm.
