      Vereker Monteith Hamilton (Scottish, 1856-1931) Kensington Gardens in June signed lower left with initials "VMH" and inscribed verso 'To Joey Farina from the artist Christmas 1911' oil on canvas h:25 w:34 cm Provenance: Mademoiselle Joey Farina, the aunt of the vendor, and by descent. The Hamilton and Farina families remained lifelong friends, and letters of correspondence between Joey Farina and Vereker Hamilton, and Vereker's son Julian and Joey, accompany this lot together with a 1st edition copy of 'Things That Happened' ,an autobiography of the artist inscribed 'For Joey from the author's daughter' . Other Notes: Vereker Hamilton was a Scottish artist who in later life became interested in painting leading stage and ballet figures, in particular the Russian Ballet, and he became a close friend of the Soprano Mademoiselle Joey Farina and gave her the present painting at Christmas 1911. Vereker Hamilton studied at the Slade School under Legros, and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1886 onwards and at the Paris Salon, Glasgow and the Grosvenor Gallery.

      Vereker Monteith Hamilton (British, 1856-1931) Three Dancers - Romola, later Madame Nijinksi; Enrico Cechetti; and Miss Margot Hamilton, daughter of the artist, 1912 oil on canvas 29 x 36cm Provenance: Private collection, Suffolk An ardent fan of Nijinsky, Romola Pulszky, a Hungarian countess, took up ballet and used her family connections to get close to Nijinksy. Despite her efforts to attract him, Nijinsky appeared unconscious of her presence. Finally Romola booked passage on board a ship that Nijinsky was due to travel on, and during the voyage Romola succeeded in engaging his affections. They were married a short while later.
