JUAN HAMILTON AMERICAN, B. 1945 UNTITLED, 2014 Watercolor Verso inscribed and signed: For Justice Ruth Ginsburg/With Love Juan 2014 Note: Juan Hamilton is best known as the principal beneficiary and executor of Georgia O'Keeffe's will, having been hired as her assistant when he was 27 and she was 84. Initially trained as a ceramicist, Hamilton transitioned into painting after meeting O'Keeffe, and this work is clearly influenced by her style. After O'Keeffe's passing in 1986, Hamilton retained ownership of the artist's summer house, Ghost Ranch. Hamilton gifted Justice Ginsburg this artwork in 2014, after he gave her a private tour of Ghost Ranch and the O'Keeffe museum. Note: From bedroom of Justice Ginsburg's Watergate condo as seen in in-situ photo.
