      George W. Hallock (American, 1916-1984) Painting. Title - Sound Shore - Orient, New York. Oil on board painting. Signed lower left G. Hallock. Label with title and artists name on the reverse. Peconic School artist living and working on the North Fork of Long Island, New York. Measures 12 inches high, 16 inches wide. Frame measures 16 inches high, 20 inches wide. In good condition with light craquelure in the sky. From Askart.com: In 1950, George W. Hallock, Jr. became a founding member and one of the first officers of the Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild in Cutchogue, Long Island. With Agnes J. Mothersele (President), Hallock served as one of the fledgling organizations Vice-Presidents. There he exhibited with other members of the Guild. It is believed George Hallock (1916-1984) received his introduction to painting from Whitney Hubbard in the Greenport School District. He also received some instruction from William Steeple Davis, a resident of Orient and an academically trained artist. With Caroline Bell, Mothersele and other Peconic Bay Impressionists, he painted out-of-doors from New Suffolk to Orient Point, L.I. He also traveled to Gloucester, Massachusetts with members of the group. Sometime during the 1960's, he moved to Merion, Pennsylvania where he began painting in watercolor.
