Acrylic paint on US flag United States of America, 2011 Greg Haberny (born 1970) - American artist Signed, dated and titled en verso with 'Greg Haberny, HABERNY, ©2011, American Gangsters' as well as illegibly inscribed, dated and inscribed again Overall dimensions, framed: 91 x 151 cm Good condition Typical 'Flag' work by the American artist Greg Haberny who paints on real US flags Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. This acrylic painting by the American artist Greg Haberny was created in 2011. It is one of the typical 'flag' works, for which the artist paints on real US Flags. The spray-painted American flag continuously reappears in Haberny's oeuvre, in this case the title 'American Gangsters' has been spray on. Inspired by US pop culture and critical of the American government and society, this large work functions as a pointed statement. Through an elaborated technique of cutting, scraping and affixing found components he reproduces the evidence of damage done by today's world. In reference to his 'Flag' works Haberny criticized the production of US flags in foreign countries, as these are often manufactured under poor conditions and in cheap materials. According to Haberny an American flag is only honorable if it has been produced by in its own country by its own people under appropriate conditions. The work is in a good condition. The black wooden frame shows slight loss of color in parts. The dimensions of the flag are 86 x 147 cm and the framed dimensions are 91 x 151 cm. Greg Haberny (born 1970) The American artist Greg Haberny (born 1970) is well-known for his installations and collages as well as his filmmaking of highly politically motivated and controversial style. The cultural iconography in his works is inspired by a great variety of elements, from vintage comics to pin up girls and from the style of Terry Richardson to the style of Alfred Hitchcock. His works often deal with political corruption, propaganda, greed, intolerance and environmental disasters amongst other themes and encourage a dialogue. Yet his works also appear bold and hopeful for change by the way in which they focus on detail and tell a story. Haberny's works have been exhibited widely, such as at the Katonah Art Museum in New York are offered in international auctions. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
